10 Delicious Superfoods You’ll Love

Superfoods are high in nutritional value and are often linked with health benefits. In my humble opinion, all of these superfoods are delicious, and I try to include each of them in my weekly diet. When eating healthy tastes this good, it’s easy to stay on track. What are your favorite superfoods? Leave a comment to let us know!

1. Blueberries

Blueberries are filled with vitamins and antioxidants that work to boost the immune system With antioxidants like Anthocyanin and Vitamin C, blueberries also work to neutralize free radicals that contribute to disease and other effects of aging. As if that’s not enough to warrant them a superfood, blueberries hold antibacterial properties that help prevent urinary tract infections.

Additionally, blueberries contribute to ocular health, slowing down vision loss and preventing ocular diseases related to aging. Additionally, these tasty fruits prevent heart disease by working to dissolve the bad cholesterol that builds up in arteries. And if your digestive system is backed up, the high fiber content of blueberries can help keep everything regular.

2. Yogurt

Yogurt curbs hunger and contains probiotics that are are excellent for your digestive system. Not to mention the fact that yogurt is full of protein, which means eating it for breakfast will keep you full longer. Because protein aids in muscle repair and growth, protein-rich yogurt is also an excellent pre- or post-workout snack. This superfood has also been attributed with fighting bad breath, boosting immunity, and it can even be used as a facial (albeit a pungent one).

3. Spinach

Spinach is a nutrient-rich, low-calorie food that has been associated with brain health and cardiovascular health. This leafy green has also been deemed a cancer fighter. The antioxidants found is spinach work to reduce free radicals that are associated with disease and aging, and it also contains special nutrients that fight prostate and ovarian cancers. 4. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants and potassium. This fruit is another cancer fighting superfood with vitamins A,C, and E working to neutralize those nasty free radicals. Tomatoes also contain a special antioxidant, lycopene, that fights heart disease.

5. Salmon

Salmon contains a large amount of protein but has a comparatively low calorie count, making it an excellent source of lean protein. Salmon also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential to human health. These fatty acids have been associated with healthy brain development and have also been linked to cardiovascular health.

Black beans are an excellent source for lean vegetable protein, and while their calorie content is comparable to meats, black beans have a higher content of water and fiber, which means eating beans makes you feel fuller longer. Black beans also contain phytochemicals that work to neutralize cancer-causing free radicals and have high levels of iron, potassium, magnesium, and folate.

Avocados are full of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E. These nutrients preserve brain health and possibly even combat Alzheimer’s. These fruits also contain monounsaturated fats, oleic acid, and potassium — nutrients that help lower cholesterol. Avocados also contain lutein, a nutrient that can help maintain and protect eye health.

Dark chocolate that contains more than 70% cocoa produces antioxidants that are linked with fighting free radicals. This superfood is also loaded with flavanols that can reduce blood pressure and improve blood flow. This improved blood flow has also been linked to improving short term brain function. Because chocolate is high in calories, strict moderation must be used when eating dark chocolate. The typical chocolate candy bar is approximately 3.5 oz, which can add 400 calories to your diet. (That’s a 20-43 minute jog, depending on your weight.)

Sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene. The body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A, an antioxidant that prevents cancers and protects your skin from sun damage. Additionally, this vitamin has been linked to eye health. Sweet potatoes also contain vitamin C, which works to boost the immune system, and vitamin E which can reduce inflammation.

Almonds are another brain-charging superfood and are rich in a variety of vitamins and minerals. These nuts contain phosphorus, which is great for bones and teeth. They are also a source of “good fats” that fight cholesterol and heart disease. They are an excellent source of vitamin E and contain minerals such as potassium, calcium, and iron (to name a few!).
